Get Your Smile Back—And So Much More

Expertly Placed Dental Implants Can Change Your Life

Losing one or more teeth can have a big impact on your life. You may feel too embarrassed to smile or talk like you used to. It might be difficult to eat certain foods. Your confidence and interest in socializing may decline. If you’re debating between a dental bridge and a partial denture to fix your smile, we have a longer-lasting solution that may be better for you needs. Dental implants can restore a complete smile and provide you with lasting benefits just as if you’d never lost a tooth or teeth in the first place! You’ll be able to eat, talk and laugh confidently with teeth that function and look real.

Our periodontist, Dr. Michael Maltz, has 30 years of experience transforming smiles with these trusted solutions. In fact, he’s placed over 20,000 dental implants. A trained implant specialist and expert in periodontal procedures, Dr. Maltz is uniquely qualified to replace your lost teeth with dental implants, especially if you have bone loss, gum disease or gum recession. This training has been achieved through prestigious institutions including University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and the Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. Using a digital approach to implant placement with guided implant technology (a technique he has lectured nationally on) he offers an added level of accuracy and predictability to every implant treatment. Expect expert, elevated care here. Expect a higher level of detail and skill. Expect a natural-looking and functional smile for years to come.

Comparing Your Tooth Replacement Options

It’s important that you replace your missing teeth and you have multiple options for doing so. By leaving gaps in your smile, the resulting bone loss can affect the position and strength of surrounding teeth. Your tooth replacement options vary in terms of function and health benefits. The most economical choice is a removable partial denture, which can replace the look of a tooth but can be uncomfortable and loose-fitting over time. A dental bridge is more stable and life-like but requires healthy adjacent teeth to be shaved down to support the fixture.

Dental implants, however, provide the greatest level of support, function and aesthetics. They’re comprised of posts (designed to mimic tooth roots) surgically placed into your jawbone for stimulation and to provide a strong base for a dental crown or bridge. Without harming other teeth, dental implants restore biting and chewing power and blend seamlessly into your smile. While many dentists agree that dental implants are an ideal solution, Dr. Maltz provides treatment that ensures the best results for you individually. If you’re interested in dental implants, we encourage you to review what to expect with treatment and affordability.

A New Smile in Three Phases

Phase One: Consultation and Treatment Planning

The first phase of your treatment consists of a personalized consultation with Dr. Maltz. During this appointment, you’ll be able to discuss treatment options and ask questions. If you decide to replace your missing teeth with dental implants, you’ll also complete a comprehensive examination that will be used to create your personalized treatment.

Dr. Maltz offers digital implantology, combining intraoral impression scanning and comprehensive imaging with CBCT technology to digitally plan your surgery before treatment even begins. Using this state-of-the-art technology, he can virtually map out your treatment, including optimal placement of your implant(s) for long-term aesthetics and function. Next, he designs custom surgical guides and prints them with a sophisticated 3D printer. These steps take the guesswork out of implant surgery and ensure that your placement surgery is completed with the highest level of precision and accuracy.

Phase Two: Precise Guided Implant Surgery

Depending on your specific case, you may need to have teeth removed and undergo bone grafting in order to prepare for the eventual placement of your implants. In many cases, Dr. Maltz can extract your tooth and place a dental implant in the same appointment, though your specific treatment plan will reflect what Dr. Maltz believes is best for your situation.

On the day of your surgery, the treatment site will be properly numbed, and your dental implant(s) placed using the personalized surgical guide. After surgery, you’ll require a healing period of about 4-6 months while you wear a custom-made temporary removable denture (flipper). During this phase, Dr. Maltz may also place a gum graft at the treatment site to improve tissue aesthetics and reduce the risk for gum recession. When the healing phase is complete, Dr. Maltz will secure a temporary healing post to the dental implants, which protrudes slightly above the gum line. In a few short weeks, your mouth will be ready for your new dental crown or bridge!

Phase Three: Final Impressions and Restoration

With your mouth completely healed and prepared for your restorative phase, the first step is to take final impressions. These will be used to design your final porcelain crown or bridge, which can either be attached by Dr. Maltz or your restorative dentist. Depending on your preferences and budget, you have a few options you can choose to complete the restorative phase of your treatment, which will be discussed during your consultation. Once your final restoration is attached, you can treat it like a real tooth and your smile will be complete, functional and attractive once again!
